Up

Like an airplane
runway racing,
shaking gravity’s shackles—

I’ve changed my mind!

Dangling from the wing,
straining toward tarmac, toe
dragging, skipping, losing contact,

ground plunging away,

gravity smirking about
inevitability.

I'm in love with that last bit:
"gravity smirking about
inevitability."
