I want to write like this when I grow up

Here's James Wolcott in the February edition of Vanity Fair, writing about Sarah Palin:

"Moderation is emasculation in the minds of militant conservatives, and pruning the party of wishy-washies will produce a lean, mean fighting machine for 2008 dream girl Sarah Palin, whose flash stardom was a boon to Tina Fey and a Viagra boost to conservative gawkers, whose pants ballooned like Jiffy Pop bags whenever she appeared on TV in glorious array."

"She makes the past come alive, which appeals to those feeling left behind, for whom the past is a beautiful Sunday idyll that liberals went and ruined. She's America's first and probably last prelapsarian drama queen, a brassy object of fascination whose unsheathing of presidential ambitions and personal entitlement will be breathtaking to behold in the years ahead, akin to watching Godzilla eat breakfast."

Pat,

Believe me, you write better than Wolcott.

Oh yeah, she got a 30 day suspended sentence, and was promptly deported, isn't able to come back for 5 years, and faced a civil suit from me that she couldn't attend. She was duly served, by the way. Since she didn't even send her lawyer or husband, I got a default judgment to which they didn't even respond. I ended up placing a lien on their property in Florida. I'll have to wait to collect whenever they die, or sell the property...whatever. Meanwhile, the meter is running.

I always liked his stuff, or most of it anyway. But he has excelled himself here. Now I must go buy VF to read the rest. It cheers me considerably to think that Mooselina won't be able to understand more than about five words of this. Huzzay three times three for literate snark!

What everyone back there in America doesn't understand is that the night of the long knives is coming up here and Sarah will be an asterisk of history by the time 2012 rolls around. She tried to take out the State Chair last summer and failed. She endorsed and cut TV ads for her Lt. Gov to run against Don Young in the Primary, and he lost, and she accomplished most of what she's done here by reaching out to Democrats in a non-partisan way, and we all know how she campaigned, so they're not all that interested in playing nice with her anymore. She took out Frank Murkowski 2 years ago, and everyone's expecting a Lisa/Sarah Death Match come 2010 either for the Senate Seat or Lisa goes after the Governorship, either way if Sarah loses, she's done. She has relied on her personal charm and charisma up here and people are pissed that even after Election Day she still hasn't stopped running, and sounds like not only a poor loser, but a spoiled brat. It WILL be fun to watch though.

She's not still running; she's merely burnishing her legacy.

There's no reason you can't.
