Louder, meaner, dumber, and ...

Several years ago, a friend and I were talking about how America had changed during our lifetimes. His choice of three adjectives nailed it, I thought: Louder, meaner, dumber. What words would you use?

I don't know if it has actually changed or it's just that certain people now have the means to find other like-minded people easily, and give the impression that there are LOTS of people just like them.

Good point—but as my friend Billy G. used to say, "It's the same thing, but different."

One word only: greedier. If you could eliminate greed from the world, think of the problems that would be solved. A modest profit is not enough any more, it has to be the maximum profit regardless of the expense to all others. This wreaks havoc on people, the environment, the economy, society as a whole, you name it. The consequences of attaining that profit are no longer a consideration. Does it cause others loss, pain, suffering, even personal embarrassment, discomfort, sadness? It doesn't matter as long as there is a profit to be made. Your work at the paper showed you this in spades.
