From Russia with love—maybe

Putin as Agent Smith = trouble for Trump

From an article I just spotted in the New York Times:

One is the leader of a declining superpower that is trying to reassert itself militarily. The other wants to “make America great again.” And the two have a budding bromance that transcends the tense relationship between the two nations.

On Thursday, Donald J. Trump appeared to pick up an endorsement from President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia. After his year-ending press conference in Moscow, Mr. Putin heaped praise on the bombastic Republican candidate, calling Mr. Trump “a very bright and talented man” and “the absolute leader of the presidential race.”

Mr. Putin may be trying to poison Trump's candidacy by endorsing it. Or he may be trying to boost Trump's momentum in the hope that we'll be speaking of "President-Elect Trump" a year from now.

I think it's the latter, because the first time those two sit down to negotiate, Putin will slice Trump up into a pile of wigged-out fajita strips.

I do not ever recall Putin - or any Russian official - weighing in on the presidential race before. This is weird.

I'm thinking there's probably more to come.
