Just shut up, senator. Just shut up.

Here’s the first paragraph from a New York Times story that’s available online today:

PHOENIX — N.F.L. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday that he was willing to meet with Senator Arlen Specter, who Thursday said he would call Mr. Goodell before the Senate Judiciary Committee to explain why the league destroyed the tapes from its investigation into spying by the New England Patriots.

Here’s Specter’s rationale:

Mr. Specter said Thursday that because the N.F.L. has an antitrust exemption in relation to its television contract, the public is entitled to be sure about the integrity of the game.

And here is the sentence from reporter Judy Battista’s story that suggests Specter lives in a world much different than you and I do:

And he compared the destruction of the Patriots’ tapes to the C.I.A.’s destruction of tapes showing the interrogation of terrorism suspects.

Well he's right on that last part. The interrogation stuff is all tickle-torture and pillow fights any way. The Pats' tapes are probably MORE important.

I was never too keen on Arlen because he used to call the house to talk with my grandfather and interrupt dinner in the process. Seriously.
