Space oddity

earthsky.org
The small streak of light in this photo is misleading. The space station's pace during a flyover is slower than a jetliner appears to be moving.

I set up a chair in my backyard last night and began watching for something. It was a cloudy night, so I didn't spot what I was looking for until it emerged from behind the clouds, slowly moving southeast, brighter than Venus.

"It" was the International Space Station, and I knew when it would show up, thanks to NASA. And so can you:
(Star track)

Here's where I learned about how to sign up for space station flyover alerts from NASA:
(Ups and downs). There's lots of interesting stuff there.

I've sat and done that too - it is amazing to think of the humans aboard that machine. Do you follow Instagram at all? https://instagram.com/stationcdrkelly/

Those are spectacular photos, and using that word is no exaggeration. I wish I knew my geography better, though, so I could know what I'm looking at.
