It's the Archduke!

I spend quite a bit of time online reading The Guardian, which in many ways is as interesting and informative as The New York Times. The Guardian's lineup of columnists, for example, is larger, with much more diverse interests.

Today I was reading a Guardian story about Ted Cruz, just one rider in the clown car of potential Republican presidential candidates. Cruz landed my support after I read this piece, in which he says multimillion-dollar political contributions are a form of free speech: (Free?)

That's right: Cruz has my support. And my father was Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

Back to the story: I always read reader comments on stories like this for two reasons. First, I like to read the opposing points of view. They give me broader perspectives. And second, sometimes somebody nails the issue with a pithy line rich with humor, irony, and truth, as did this commenter, identified as oisinwald:

To paraphrase Anatole France, the majestic equality of the American campaign finance laws permits rich and poor alike to spend millions of dollars on their favored candidates.
