Shut up and play yer guitar

with Gibson
With my Gibson SG Special bass.

Cat and knobs
The custom pick guard for the Gibson. Felix is done in jade, mother of pearl and acrylic; the halo is maple. I replaced the black plastic control knobs with mother-of-pearl-topped chrome knobs.

trust rod cover
The truss rod cover in ebony and mother-of-pearl for the Gibson. The initials are a tribute to SRV—Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Les Paul
My Epiphone Les Paul Standard, which I bought a couple of weeks ago. I refinished the finger board and replaced the original pickup cover rings. It was built in 1999; this model hasn't been made since 2005. I'm not going to do any customizing on this one.

Glad you like them. These are my third and fourth basses. I gave the first one to my nephew, who is a fine guitar player but, I think, a better bassist. I traded in the second one even up for the Les Paul. The Gibson is the third bass I bought. Guitarists refer to a disease called GAS—Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. The Les Paul and the custom work on the Gibson have cured me.

Gorgeous guitar. And we won't hold you to the comment about no longer having GAS, just in case another gorgeous bass crosses your path.

Thanks, Carole. I love playing them both. The Les Paul is faster because of the finish on the back of the neck.
