A very sad story. While the UK reporting provides more info than the Texas post, I think there is much more to the story. A teenage girl with a knife, adult, male cops behind a windowed wall, and they choose to shoot her. What happened to the stun guns, forget the duty weapons. Something is missing...

Sometimes I must take a "head in the sand" approach to world news. Otherwise, it's simply too sad and overwhelming to absorb.

You once wrote about how it's impossible to make a donation to every worthy cause, so you give only to charities and organizations that have a significant personal attachment or can provide the most benefit locally. I need to do more of that in reaction to bad news. People are starving? Donate to the local food bank. Women are victimized by brutality? Make a donation to the local family shelter. And try to hold accountable people who have the power to remedy those situations. For instance, I just can't wait until my congressman's next town hall meeting.
