Psyched out

Temperatures are in the single digits here in Western New York and will drop to below zero tonight. Two or three feet of lake-effect snow are possible. Vicious winds are whipping the "feels like" temperatures down to minus-30 range. The New York State Thruway is closed from Buffalo west to the Pennsylvania state line. Western New York's two major north-south highways into Buffalo are closed. Schools and businesses are canceling activities by the scores.

All of this has prompted the National Weather Service to post a blizzard warning for the Buffalo area. We're about 70 miles south, where advisories for lake-effect snow and wind chill have been posted.

It's so bad that Buffalo's NBC affiliate, WGRZ, took to the air with a special report at 7:30. One of the anchors, Maryalice Demler, was interviewing a meteorologist with the National Weather service by telephone. After noting the blizzard warning was the first since 1993, she asked the meteorologist about him and the National Weather Service staff:

"Are you kind of psyched about it?"

Yep: Nothing gets a meteorologist psyched like weather that can kill people.
