Summer for sale. Get it now. It won't last long.

Sherry has been like a dervish in the flower beds, slashing every perennial off at ground level.

How were your black-eyed susans this year? Mine had a weak showing. It's almost time to start thinking about fall when they bloom, and all I ask of them is that they give me that electric orange glow at dusk to fool me into thinking there's a lot of summer left. Big letdown this year.

They were ok, but kinda whiny crybabyish about wanting to be watered. Lots of dark spots on the leaves, which I guess are common and not an issue, but detract, nonetheless. I'm going to leave some of them for the finches and cut some down. I should do what Sherry's doing because it really cuts down on work in the Spring, plus lots of things are just plain ugly and spent. I don't like this time of year in the garden...it's all work without the hopeful anticipation.
