Too late to the horizon

title or description

One of the pleasures of teaching college students is soaking up their youthful energy. A good day in the classroom can be rejuvenating, even electric—most of the time.

On occasion, though, a conversation with a college-age student leaves me feeling as if I reached the horizon too late to see the sunset: All that's left is shadow clouds hung in a scowling sky smeared with a streak of the colors of a bruise.

In the morning I wake up feeling like a tree that's been sliced down. I can count every one of my rings.

The saying, "You're only as old as you feel" is reassuring on some days more than others. Just remember, we've got wisdom on our side. And discounts - don't forget those early bird specials we now qualify for.

As my friends and I used to say in college, "The early bird catches the buzz."
