Congress sucks
Mark my words: if we cannot make our communities safer with the Congress we have now, we will use every means available to make sure we have a different Congress, one that puts communities’ interests ahead of the gun lobby’s. To do nothing while others are in danger is not the American way.

Re: Congress sucks
As soon as I get home, I'm going to make a donation to whatever organizations Gifford supports in her efforts.

For what it's worth, my senators came down on the righteous side of the vote.

Here's a link to a map showing how each state's senators voted:

While a lot of the voting can be quickly explained away as being due to the influence of the NRA and other lobbying groups, my looking at this map tells me this more a cultural mindset situation. Why does the entire South vote against any gun control legislation? I don't know the breakdown of where lobbying monies and efforts were focused, but does this map mean that such focus was in the South? Is the real boogeyman simply some cultural machismo? Is it a result of some carry over from the War of Northern Aggression (i.e., the Civil War)? I think pointing at the NRA is a quick fix. It goes well beyond their influence. I think they're just the straw that stirs the already conservative brew that is the South.

In many ways that map looks like an electoral map, doesn't it?

And if the firearms and ammunition manufacturers didn't have the NRA to carry water for them, they'd simply find another water boy.
