Always almost

title or description

It is almost spring.

Worms slide onto sidewalks, trailing straw-thin mud wakes.

Peepers punctuate night like sleigh bells.

Trumpeter swans north in shrill high V's.

Horizon shades Orion, taking his dog.

Almost spring.

Daffodils still hunch in buds.

North sides of hills still paint snow.

White tree flowers unbloomed beside cold streams.

Lawns greening, yet not greened.

Crocuses poke up white heads with unopened eyes.

Almost spring.

It is always almost spring.

Oh, all so true - today is warm, bordering on hot by WNY standards, and I just got home from a client session. I'm going outside to something, anything in the gardens to take advantage of this tease of a day.

It's clouding up here. Hope you moved fast.

I have an idea for that writing project we've been discussing. More later.

Spring flowers, especially Crocus remind me of my mom…gone now thirty-five years…the first crocus often showed through the snow some springs in my childhood…she loved Iris, Dragon Lilies, Violets, and Chicken & Hens…it’s funny the things that trigger good and loving memories like flowers…a fistful of Dandelions in a grimy paw breaking through the back door elicits a broad and loving smile that fawns over the wilted mess as if it is a dozen of the finest Roses and immediately draws a glass of water and arranges them with a touch only a mother has…in retrospect…as a kid your Mom can elevate the mundane to a special level…ironic that she still can even if from another plane…
Thanks Pat…And you too Mom!-Holiday
