A million little pieces of lies

title or description

Let's consider some of the headlines from the past week:

• Bicylist Lance Armstrong admits he doped during the Tour de France, which surprised nobody who actually knows what the Tour de France is.

• The college football player Manti Te'o can't seem to remember whether he has an imaginary girlfriend, someone whose existence/nonexistence made his life's story more appealing — at least, until her identity/non-identity may or may not have been discovered. Or something like that.

• And then there's today's word that Beyonce lip-synched her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" at the president's inauguration extraganza yesterday, surprising no one.

As a journalist, here's my take on the algebra: news about fakes = fake news.

Thank God some responsible reporters and media outlets have already abandoned these stories to move on to the biggest story of our time:

The Super Bowl. Did you know this will be the first time the opposing teams will be coached by brothers?

Remember: You saw it here first.

When news breaks, someone has to fix it.

You have time to delete that comment before hundreds of people view it and laugh derisively at you.

I think your math might be wrong. News about fakes = News that makes regular joes happy that somebody (usually famous) screwed up and they can watch them get bashed them to near death + they get to see it from the comfort of the lazyboy + they can drink beer and not worry about getting a dui.

Standing in the drug store checkout line today, I saw that Khloe (or however she spells it) isn't really a Kardashian. I'm happy to say I don't know what the significance of this is.
