House porn

title or description
This is Umbria. I cannot afford a second home there. Hell, I can't afford a first home there.

I just finished eating a light supper in the kitchen, and while I was eating, Sherry had HGTV on in the adjoining room. The show she was watching was "House Hunters," and I wasn't paying attention until I heard the phrase "buy a second home in Umbria."

Cannot
Relate
To That
At
All.

I'm still making payments on a home equity loan we took out so we could build Sherry's dream kitchen. I don't have money for an airline ticket to Umbria, much less a second home there.

As far as I'm concerned, shows like that are house porn. They should be on between 2 and 6 a.m.

I hear you. But then, I wonder about houses around HERE that are 6,000+ square feet. That's the size of THREE of my houses - how much living space does one Richie Rich couple need, anyhow?

6,000 square feet? I'd hate to have to heat it—but that's probably not a factor if you can afford the house to begin with.

HGTV is my guilty pleasure network. However, I have switched to watching more of the home renovation shows (Property Brothers) because they buy "fixer-uppers" that have at least 6-digit values instead of 7.

But I mean, really, a $200,000 home is a fixer-upper? House porn indeed.

Love It or List It is another show that bugs me. A couple gives Hillary $50,000, and she turns their home into the Taj Mahal. She must get free labor—unlike the real world.
