And now this

title or description
The fire in Webster, NY, near Rochester

I hadn't check the New York Times online for a few hours, so I just did. Here's the lead headline: 2 Firefighters Fatally Shot Near Rochester in Suspected Ambush

Two more were wounded. Seven houses were destroyed. Police are not sure if they have found all the victims.

Say a prayer for all of them: victims; homeowners; firefighters, police officers and other first responders; and community residents.

And say a prayer for our blood-soaked, bullet-ridden nation.

How Prophetic

We are, all of us, growing volcanoes that approach the hour of their eruption; but how near or distant that is, nobody knows - not even God.

Give the age of the quotation, I hope it means things aren't as bad as they seem.

I hope they find whoever it was that sold a semi-automatic weapon to this convicted murderer.

This never would have happened if the firefighters had been armed. And dear God, I'm not saying that to try to be funny; I'm just extending LaPierre "logic" to the situation.

I think ammunition should be taxed as onerously as cigarettes are taxed, with the proceeds going toward mental health programs and financial aid for shooting victims and their families. And people should have to provide photo ID to be allowed to buy ammunition.

Gun control? Hell, no—you can have all the guns you want. But bullets? That's another matter entirely.

Sherry and I were watching Piers Morgan last night, and his show was snippets of interviews he'd conducted this year with newsmakers. One of the guys he was interviewing belonged to some NRA-type group, and the guy was rattling off crime statistics for foreign countries to show how America was safer because of all of our guns. Morgan interrupted him and said everything the guy was saying was a lie, that the statistics showed just the opposite. The guy just ignored him, and Morgan said something like "What an incredibly stupid man you are."

We need more guys like him on the case.
