Louder, dumber and meaner

I was having lunch with an old friend once, and when our conversation turned to the state of life in America, he had three words for it: louder, dumber and meaner.

The louder, dumber and meaner report is going to become a regular feature here at If the Six. Here's today's dispatch:

(How low can you go?)

I'm trying to figure out at what point people stopped striving to better themselves and their lot in life, and instead began to point fingers and scream, "If I can't have what he has, then he shouldn't have it either."

In answer to the question, "How low can you go?" I'd like to think "This. This is as low as we can go." But I fear that's wishful thinking.

This most certainly shows an inability to evolve into a society of empathy. But, it has never been about, "how far we have come." It has always been about, "how far we have yet to go." # Holiday

To borrow a phrase from Hunter S. Thompson, we clearly are dealing with "the demented imagination of a lazy drunken hillbilly with a heart full of hate."
