Pick a winner (so to speak)

As Republican voters go to the polls today in Michigan and Arizona, it seems like a good time to summarize what's left—excuse me, what's remaining—of the Republican presidential field:

• The smug, out-of-touch, facsimile of a warm-blooded creature, Romney, who seems to be afflicted with terminal political amnesia;

• Santorum, who is tripping all over himself to get so far to the right that he may well fall off the planet;

• Gingrich, who has no more business being in this race than a pilot fish has pretending it's a shark; and

• Ron Paul, who is limited to croaking about the gold standard until everyone forgets about him.

Remember, folks: This is the Grand Old Party.

Because EVERYTHING is left of the Republican presidential field, even moderate Republicans like me.

And that's the problem. These candidates are so wacky that someone like me, who doesn't vote along party lines, can't bring myself to take any of them seriously.

That's precisely my problem too. What would happen if all Americans abstained from voting?

Then we'd have to go through the primaries all over again. What a hoot that would be.

I can see it now: Ross Perot will make another resurgence. And the Donald will throw his toupee in the ring.

I was having a reasonably good day until you mentioned Donald Trump, who is a bigger blowhard than a Category 5 hurricane.
