The Man

This is an example of why I wish I had grown up to be Charles P. Pierce:

(As good as it gets)

All so true.
I cannot grasp the mindset of people who are actually worried about the football program at Penn State.

In an era where football and basketball coaches earn two or three times what university presidents earn, something is very wrong—or, as Hunter Thompson might say, decadent and depraved.

I never cared for Pierce until I read this article. He got it right. It's one hell of a piece.

Agreed. This is one of the hardest-hitting pieces I've seen about anything..

The first thing I ever read by Pierce was his infamous feature on Tiger Woods. I've been a fan ever since, although I can see why his style might not appeal to everyone.

He's blogging politics now at Esquire.com. Lots of stunt writing there, and not all of it hits the mark, but on the other hand, he can be devastating. Having said that, my political leanings are in tune with his, so I probably enjoy him more than my more conservative friends would.

"Wow" is such an insignificant word, but I can' find another to describe what I just read.

I honestly couldn't react with much more than a "wow" when I read that piece. That was a controlled thermonuclear detonation.

That piece made me downright uncomfortable. Thank you for sharing.

Like Pierce said, we've got to remain uncomfortable about this for as long as it takes for everyone to understand the enormity of it.
