Zappa was right*

Several thousand Penn State students rioted last night after the university's board of trustees fired the university's football coach, Joe Paterno.
(Details)

I have no doubt lots of stupid things were done and said last night, but this may be the stupidest quotation of the evening:

“We got rowdy and we got maced,” Jeff Heim, 19, said rubbing his red, teary eyes. “But make no mistake, the board started this riot by firing our coach. They tarnished a legend.”

The board of trustees started the riot. Somebody should send this guy home and give him back his old paper route.

* “Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe." – Frank Zappa

Maybe those people who are so outraged at the firings would be willing to present their privates for some in-the-shower fondling, to show what a no-big-deal thing it apparently is.

Stupidity abounds in this whole mess, but I do have to say I also feel sorry for Penn State students. I know how much of a mess an illegal student basketball player can make; I can't imagine hearing one's alma mater essentially permitted a heinous crime to continue for years.

Mr. Zappa also famounsly asked, "What's the ugliest part of your body?" The response was, "Some say your nose, some say your toes, but I think it's your mind -- yes, I think it's your mind."

Haha, I've never hear that line, but I love it.

Click on the attached link. Zappa's comments after the opening chorus are prescient given recent events.

It's too bad the CD of that album was a remastered disaster. I can't bear to listen to it or to "Cruising With Reuben and the Jets," for that matter. And the first few times I heard the "Hot Rats" CD, I couldn't believe how tinny and shrill it sounded compared to the original. "Peaches en Regalia" is a great example.

The remastered CDs are too bright and too clinical; almost shrill.

That's why God created vinyl.

Ahhhh, . . . vinyl. The true and proper sonic delivery system.

Analog -- the only way to travel.
