The life of the, like, mind or something

I just read this in a student essay I'm grading:

These young adults are not lazy; they just do not put their energy into the more “boring” things, such as reading, writing, and taking notes.

Omf'ingG...tell me that was sarcasm.

The essay contains no signs that the sentence is sarcastic or ironic.

Oh my. That's. . . that's horrifying. Bet he or she can't justify the use of that oxford comma, either. Too boring.

We all know oxford commas are imported from, like, England or something.

I'm thinking of sending that line to Mike Judge so he can use it in his Beavis & Butthead revival.

Sounds like it belongs on Shit My Students Write XD

That site is a howler! It's dangerous, though: I almost spewed Diet Pepsi all over my computer when I read the one with the misspelled "cologne."

Yeah, the one that got me was the one about Buddha defecating XD

Although this one definitely sounds like something that I might've encountered during my days TA-ing the junior-level biology lab classes at JHU and grading the resulting lab reports. "Conclusion section? I'll give 'em a conclusion section! I'll show 'em! I'll show 'em all!!" (at 6 A.M. of the day the report is due, in the bowels of the university library after fifteen double-shots of espresso)

We can only hope that was a misspelling.

This is probably the best site I could have visited before siting down to grade a batch of papers.

It's impossible to make up stuff like that.

OMG. Well, like teachers don't want to put that much energy into "stupid" things either, such as reports, assignments and student papers.

How do you keep from writing FAIL across the top?
Nov. 5th, 2011 01:16 am (UTC)
Oh, I was tempted to write considerably more than that.

Hey, hey, hey. Call him lazy if you wish, but he did NOT use a single contraction. He spelled out "are not" and "do not" like an upstanding citizen.

I hadn't—oops, had not—thought of it that way.
