Palin target map update

title or description

As of this posting (10 a.m. Monday), Sarah Palin's gun scope map was still up on her Facebook page, even as Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona (one of the "targeted" members of Congress on the Palin map) remains hospitalized after being shot Saturday in Tucson. Here's a medical update from today's New York Times: (A report from Rep. Giffords' surgeons.)

As a colleague of mine said about Palin, "Her PR people have to be throwing up." Do they take the map down or leave it up? What will people read between the lines in either instance?

I don't often venture into politics on this blog, and despite many temptations, I've never written here about Sarah Palin. But this episode has me shaking my head. Why not take the map down, simply as a gesture of compassion, respect and sympathy? What am I missing?

They take the map down. And it should have happened before now.

I really don't understand why they haven't taken the map down. What PR or political foul can come from removing the map or changing the symbols?

Is Palin and her political dream team just demonstrating their complete lack of sensitivity? I think so.

Yeah, why not change the symbol to a little donkey with one of those circle+slash symbols? She has nothing to gain from not taking the map down—and I imagine this is just one of thousands or maybe millions of conversations going on about this.

You got a snarky chuckle out of me with that one.

Possibly because of things like this.
(Warning: may make your head explode.)
