For real? Ouch.

For real. Not nearly as bad as it looks.

Hope you got a lot of sympathy, and some ice cream for being brave.

Gah! Hand guts!

How's it feeling?

It feels OK. Thanks for asking. My incision is exactly an inch long, so the surgery isn't nearly as bad as the picture makes it look.

For carpal tunnel syndrome?

IMHO, the really icky part of surgery in general is manipulating the flesh around a surgical wound, because it's all bloody and I always get the feeling that if you pull/tug too hard you'll rip the hole really big, oops ("too hard" being "a fraction harder than what the vet's doing and oh my god he's poking and prodding and digging at that bicep ohmygod"). It's a bit nails-on-chalkboard.

Carpal tunnel it was. My hands kept falling asleep, which was a matter of some concern when it was happening on 30 mph downhills on my bicycle.

The surgeon who did my right hand Friday did a splendid job on my left hand two weeks ago. The incision was just an inch long, and it's already closed up. There's just a little unfinished business with the first layer of skin—minor stuff, really.

Right now the right hand is more of an inconvenience than anything else—although I found out this morning that it's not ready to be using pruning shears for some light work on one of my azaleas.

AH! That photo made my hand twitch and my stomach flop. Glad it went okay.

The photo makes it look much worse than it really was. Getting the I.V. started in the back of my hand before surgery was the worst part.

Glad to hear everything went smoothly! :) Hope the recovery is quick and that this solves that pesky (and sometimes dangerous) hand-falling-asleep problem.

Thanks for the good wishes, Sara. The hand-falling-asleep problem seems to have migrated to between my ears.
