Used to be I’d
Write like this

Give up like this

Crumple the paper
Toss it on the floor.

Now it’s just
Close file
“Save changes?”
Why do you think I’m closing the file

All the crumpled paper
Said “tried"

But what does the
Screen saver say

You just described my Ph.D. experience thus far. :)

This semester is killing me, and I don't have anything to do but schoolwork. I have no idea how you can pull off Ph.D. studies on top of your course load.

I can't believe how much you've managed to say here with so few lines. Damn.

Someone has been reading minimalist poetry :)

Very nice.

Thanks. "Minimalist" is all I've got in me these days.

Some people say that if the lede doesn't come right away, just begin the story with the second graf and come back to it. I could not do that. I couldn't even try to do it. If the story is a swimming pool, the lede is the diving board.

I like that. I've stared at the screen for far longer than I like to admit waiting for that diving board. In fact, I usually approach, retreat, approach, dip in a toe, retreat, repeat. repeat. repeat.

I like this, by the way. It's trite and cliche, but less really is more here.

Thank God I'm not the only one. It's one of the few pieces of advice RJJandoli ever gave me that I had to ignore. I'm like you; I can't do it.
