Somebody posted a link to Charles Pierce's recent piece in Esquire on their facebook page today: http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/obama-endorsement-2012-14278423

I don't know if I'm more aware, more scared, or have more at stake this time around than in other presidential election years, but this one feels like a nothing but a steaming pile of bad choices.

If by "help" you mean, "add to my conviction that we're doomed no matter who gets voted in" then yeah, that helps.

I wonder if we live in a society where we can get pissed off enough to make changes, or if we live in a society where people say, "Fuck it. We're screwed either way," or if we live in a society where people say, "I got mine, and I don't care if you get yours." I think the people who pull the levels of power are trying to corral us all through Door No. 3. Divide and conquer.

I actually think we'll end up at Door #1 if things continue as they are, and maybe we'll see some signs of it this election. On the other hand, I fear what society might look like if we head towards Door #1, since "civilized" isn't always the way people act when they're pissed off.

Oh, thanks. Now you've just ruined my hopes for what this country is capable of. Maybe we should pack up and move to New Zealand.

It's always darkest before the dawn.

Gotta kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight.

Maybe we need these dark days to encourage us to seek some light.

Hope springs eternal.

That is a great quote. I had not seen it before.

For some reason it jumped back into my head today—maybe because of all the election prognostication.

Yeah, I think I like it because I am so discouraged election-wise.... I'm just grasping for any good news or sign of it!

The idea of government "of the people" still stands, but the ideas of "by the people" and "for the people" got lost along the way.
